What are your planning for your public library for TTW 2017?

I have always felt that TTW can be many things. So many in fact it can be hard to focus on on aspect or another even when there is a theme. The public library where I work is located in a school district where there are no school librarians. For that reason I usually focus on research/database use/promotion. In past years we have had some self directed scavenger hunts that have been pretty successful. As a way to integrate the TTW theme I am going to create a teen patron survey/quiz that helps the taker get an overview of the community where they live (hopefully). My thinking is that if you want to be the source of change it is good to know about your community. I swiped this idea from the American Planning Association (an association of city planners) post about Kids and Community. Part of the post has a link to a great neighborhood scavenger hunt, made for the younger set but easy to riff off for ideas that are meaningful for the older set as well. I plan on entering every participant into a raffle for a $15.00 itunes card and posting the answers the week after TTW.

We at Warren County Public Library in Bowling Green, Kentucky have created the Source of Change Challenge!  The intention is to inspire children to create a project at home that increases efficiency or betters the community.  For example: mini greenhouse designs or a solar powered water heating system, etc.  Then the teens will drop the project off at their preferred library branch with a submission form that describes what it is and how it should be used.  Our Chamber of Commerce and members from our community are going to vote on the best one!  We are still deciding on a grand prize =).  We are super excited about this.  We think it works well because it requires little time from staff members, its practically passive, but I think it really focuses in on the theme of Teen Tech Week this year 'Be the Source of Change' and will leave a big impression on our community
