Join YALSA for the following Teen Tech Week events!
Feb. 1: STEM It Up! Lose Your Fears and Jump into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math in Your Library!
As part of its participation in Digital Learning Day, YALSA will offer a webinar on STEM. The first 98 Teen Tech Week registrants will be invited to participate live via email on Jan. 31. All other registrants will receive a complimentary copy of the recording.
Everyone is talking about STEM education these days. It’s time for libraries to get on board! In this webinar, you’ll learn how to incorporate STEM into your job as a teen librarian. You’ll learn how to acquire grant funds and create community partnerships. You’ll be introduced to a cavalcade of STEM programming ideas for your library. From digging event ideas out of your science fair books, to career fairs, to partnering for programs with local universities, you’ll find STEM programs to be a rewarding and exciting way to entice teens to your library. As we explore these ideas, we’ll tie them to YALSA’s Competencies for Librarians Serving Youth, in areas Areas IV and VII, Administration and Services.
Facilitator Holly Anderton is the manager of Teen Services at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh-Main. She is a past chair of YALSA’s Intellectual Freedom Committee, and is now working with her esteemed colleagues to facilitate Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s second STEM grant, generously donated by the Alcoa Foundation and Anne L. and George H. Clapp Charitable and Educational Trust.
